YouTube has introduced an exciting update to its Dream Screen feature for Shorts, allowing creators to generate dynamic AI-powered video backgrounds. Previously limited to static image backgrounds, this upgrade integrates Google DeepMind's AI model Veo, enabling the creation of cinematic 1080p video clips.
Creators can now access the feature via the Shorts camera, where they tap the “green screen” icon, select “Dream Screen,” and input a prompt, such as “candy landscape” or “magical forest with a stream.” The AI will then generate several video background options based on the chosen prompt and animation style, which creators can use to enhance their Shorts content.
This update opens up new creative possibilities, allowing users to virtually place themselves in various imaginative settings or produce animated intros for their videos. Looking ahead, YouTube plans to expand this feature, letting creators generate standalone six-second video clips for Shorts.
This move positions YouTube ahead of TikTok, which only offers AI-generated image backgrounds and lacks support for video backgrounds, setting YouTube apart in the evolving landscape of short-form video content.
Currently, this feature is available to creators in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand
